Well, we’re at the very end, we’ve been through three grueling rounds of intense physical and at times dirty playoff hockey but we are, here at the very end in the Stanley Cup final. It is the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Nashville Predators. The two teams will battle it out for the Stanley Cup. These two teams met two times during the regular season, they each won a game on their home ice. Now, here is the path that the two teams made to the Stanley Cup final.
Let’s look at Nashville’s road first. In the first round, they swept the number one seed in the Western Conference, Chicago Blackhawks in four games. After that they disposed of the St. Louis Blues in six, after that, they got through the Pacific Division champions the Anaheim Ducks in six teams as well. That’s how they got here.
Here’s how the Pittsburgh Penguins got here. Little a lot more grueling for Pittsburgh in their first-round match up. They defeated the team with the fourth best regular season record in the NHL Columbus in five. After that, the penguin eliminated the Presidents Trophy winning Washington Capitals in seven and then in the Eastern Conference final, they narrowly escaped Craig Anderson in the Ottawa Senators in a grueling intense seven-game series. So that’s how big two teams got here.
For Nashville, they are looking for their first Stanley Cup championship in the franchise history this year. It is the first time they’ve ever made the final. Their strengths, defense, and goaltending, their top four defense men, Ryan Ellise, Mattias Ekholm, Roman Josi, and PK Subban, they are the best top four group of defensemen in the league. They’re solid, they can play great defense, they can move the pocket and score as well and each of them plays about 25 minutes a night. So we’re going to be seen a ton of those four. Also, goaltending from them is a strength. Pekka Rinne, he’s been playing the best hockey of his life over the last two months in this post season.
Now, when it comes to the Penguins. In the Stanley Cup final for the second year in a row, they are looking to repeat as champion. Would it be the first repeat champions for the first time since the Red Wings back in 1998? So, here are their strengths. Offense and goaltending, the Penguins booming on their superstar forward. Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel, can’t forget about Bryan Rust and company. Forward for Pittsburgh it’s solid. And the Penguins, they don’t only have one great goaltender. They have two great goalies. Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury with the rock from the first game of the playoffs for Pittsburgh until Game three of the Eastern Conference final.
So those are the strengths for these two teams. We will be able to find out which of these both team will get the victory. Will it be Pittsburgh Penguins? Or the Nashville Predators?
