Creed Movie Thoughts
Creed is directed by Ryan Coogler and stars Michael B Jordan and Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa and the son of Apollo Creed who since deceased. His name is Donnie and he’s had a hard life, he’s been through juvie quite often, he’s a constant fight starter and he decides that he’d like to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue the career of boxing that’s why he tracks down Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa to help train him to make him be as best as he can be.
That’s the plot in a nutshell but what the movie really is about is someone who doesn’t have a father who really needs a positive male figure in his life, who finds one. And this guy really needs someone in his life at this point too. And similar to the best Rocky movies, it’s not just about boxing, it’s really about these two men, one who doesn’t have a father, who doesn’t really have anything in life and Rocky who’s in his older years now who doesn’t have his wife anymore, who a lot of his friends have since passed on, who also doesn’t feel like he has anything in life. And it’s their team up together that gives this film its emotional punch.
Creed is a great film, it is the best film in the rocky series since the first one from the 70s. Ryan Coogler directed the very good Fruitvale Station and Michael B Jordan was also in that movie. That was an extremely emotionally and it affect a lot of viewer. And what he brought to Creed was a terrific sense of grit and realism, he captured the streets of Philadelphia so beautifully, there’s such a great urban feel in this movie and it was so well filmed and well performed by the casts as well.
